HISTORY OF THE WFSCA

The WIAA began to sponsor and recognize softball as a high school sport in 1976. In the early 80’s the softball coaches were part of the baseball association then in the late 80’s they decided to begin their own association which became the WFSCA.

Tory Acheson was president at that time and along with the board began to implement ways to honor the coaches and players as well as provide them opportunities to learn and improve softball in the State, thus began a series of yearly clinics that were held at local high schools throughout the State. Some of the early clinics hosts were Whitnall, Kimberly, Marshfield, Dodgeville, La Crosse, Portage and UW Stevens Point. Local college and high school coaches did the speaking and sharing of ideas and techniques. Pizza and subs were served in schools cafeterias and gyms.
As the association progressed the clinic was moved to the Ramada in Stevens Point where it remained until it closed. The Holiday Inn in Point also hosted our clinic until we moved to our present site at Chula Vista in the Dells. Professional speakers, college coaches, vendors, luncheons, award and HOF banquets and socials are now part of our clinic.

We have had many members past and present serve as Presidents of the WFSCA. Tory Acheson, David Jones, Cindy Suess, Karen Scarseth, Rich Frost, Jeff Hodgson, Brad Ceranski and current President John Ruffolo. Countless coaches have served the association as Board and Committee members, as well as District and Conference Reps. The unselfish work and dedication of these individuals will continue to grow our association for future coaches and players.
